Why White Particles Appear in Chenpi Tea

White particles in chenpi tea are not always a problem. They can come from the peel itself or surface residue. Here are common causes.

1. Light bloom or crystals

A thin white bloom or crystal-like layer can appear during drying or aging. This is often a normal appearance.

2. Pith powder

Fine powder from the inner pith can fall off during handling and appear in the brew.

3. Surface dust

If the peel was not cleaned well, dust may show up during brewing. A short warm soak and gentle rinse helps.

4. Mold

If the white material is fuzzy, smells off, or is visible on the peel before brewing, it may be mold. In that case, do not use it.

When unsure, use smell and appearance as your guide; if anything seems abnormal, discard it.
